About The Sam Loyd Company

For over 135 years Sam Loyd has been considered by some as the premier puzzlist having created over 10,000 puzzles during his lifetime, many of which are regarded as the most ingenious ever invented.

Sam created his puzzles with a zest that has never been rivalled and would sell many as advertising premiums to organisations who would use them to sell anything from tea, life insurance to soap. Sam later passed his skills to his son who would carry on the family legacy after his fathers death in 1911. Sam Loyd junior not only kept his fathers work in the forefront of the public but also created many of his own puzzles until his death in 1934.

Apart from a few books and magazine references, Sam Loyd's work has been sadly forgotten and used by others without any reference or credit to the inventor. His advertising puzzle cards no longer available and those which survived through the years are in the hands of either museums or a few collectors. The Sam Loyd Company was founded on Sam Loyd's principles to once again make available his work to everyone and is responsible for promoting, educating, publishing, distributing and protecting Sam Loyd's work and legacy. The company is self funded and 100% of the money made from selling his work is put back into the company to bring you even more of his puzzles, keep the website going and purchase items for the archives.
